GP Access Post-Pandemic an update as we exit restrictions in the UK

Firstly, a big thank you to all our patients, staff, and carers for keeping our community safe by recognising the protective measures of triage, testing, mask wearing and queue management throughout the last 2 years.

The pandemic has fundamentally changed the way patients have been accessing medical care across the UK as a medical practice we have had to adapt and continue to provide a high-quality service.

Going back to pre-pandemic working (with patient booked face to face appointments) is now very difficult due to the huge number of online and telephone consultation requests we receive every day.

To meet the huge increase in demand we plan to continue with the current model of clinician triage in the first instance. Please rest assured that if you need to be seen face to face your doctor will arrange this for you.

We genuinely believe our patients get better GP access and medical care with the current system of an initial remote consultation with a face to face appointment booked if needed - pre-pandemic the wait for a GP contact was on average 2 weeks.

A recent practice survey found that 62% of patients have found accessing our service easier since the service re-design, we hope you will agree.

In summary:

> Access to medical care will continue to be by telephone or our online service AccuRx

> All face to face appointments will be booked by your GP where required; after an initial assessment (telephone or AccuRx)

> Please continue to wear a face mask when visiting the practice as elderly and vulnerable patients need to be kept as safe as possible.

> If you have symptoms of a COVID infection, we request you do not attend the practice.
